Happy Birth-day!

This morning, at 11:52 Lisa gave birth to our daughter! She weighs 5 lbs 8 oz. and 17 1/2 long and has a good bit of dark brown hair. Lisa and baby (Gracie Sophia or Sophia Grace) are both doing very well. Lisa was such a trooper through the entire labor process. Have a look at the slideshow.

Spencer

Spencer took a little while to warm up for me, but after that he had a blast! Have a peak at the slideshow.

Photos of Lisa

We took a few minutes today and setup a backdrop and a light and shot some photos of Lisa. We've been meaning to do this for a while, but finally got the chance today. Have a look at the slideshow.

Flat tires and up in smoke

What a week. Wednesday L and I were headed to the grocery store for some munchies when our driver-side rear tire blew out. A giant bolt penetrated the tread and broke out through the sidewall. I got the spare on and headed to Big-O tire. I like Big-O. We just got these tires in March and they were covered by a road hazard warranty so we were able to get that taken care of for free. It was a hassle but at least it didn't cost us anything. Good thing, too.

Friday night I headed over to a friends house and our wives took off to see a friend. I was working a Flash project for my Multimedia Production class and was making good progress. I headed home and finished another project for Web Design. It was about midnight and my faithful PowerBook was down to 4% battery, so I plugged in the power adapter and *poof* no more power adapter. I don't dare plug it in now and the even overnighting it my new power adapter won't be here until Tuesday. Not to mention it cost over $90.

Hopefully I can borrow one before class and finish my ad.

I'm using my wife's Dell to post this. I can't wait for my Apple.

We had them over tonight and had a lot of fun eating, playing, talking and watching the slideshow from there wedding. I always get a kick out of watching slideshows with people I've photographed.

It's easy to lose perspective when editing a wedding and I always find it refreshing to hear what a couple will comment on during the slideshow. It also helps that Ethan and Katrina are good friends of ours and were so great to work with.

September 19 2007

School is in full swing now. L found a job as a TA with one of her favorite professors and she is really busy with her classes. She's in a kindergarten and will be doing some teaching. She is excited. We've bought a starving student card and have been making very good use of it lately. We've got some very exciting news that we will be contacting our friends and family about personally...

Work is going great tomorrow is our diamond show and it should be an absolutely crazy day. I'm looking forward to it but it will be nice to have it behind me.

I just started classes again yesterday. Get this: I'm doing an independent study based around stock photography. I'm supposed to have my camera on me at all times and shoot anything. I went out after work today and shot this one at the arboretum up the street from our place. The camera was resting on my camera bag and triggered with the self-timer. This is really the only one that worked the way I wanted. I am definitely going to have to explore this some more...but with a tripod, and my wife to help out.

Classes are pretty good. I decided to go to school full-time instead since I'll just be working part-time. It looks like there may be a hang up in my graduating in December. Yeah, the 2 of the 3 classes I need for graduation overlap and therefore cannot be taken in the semester. yay.

L is going gung ho with her classes, and she says she really likes them.

Squirt Bottle Game

I've been messing around at the house and experimenting with some lighting techniques. I want to do some shots with perfume or cologne, but didn't want to fog up with the house with dozens of test shots, so I tested with a squirt bottle. I never even got to the perfume because I had so much fun with the squirt bottle.

I remember playing the squirt bottle game, which was an evolution of the the thimble game. Basically you have a group of people trying to guess what the "it" guy is thinking. Whoever the lucky "winner" is gets sprayed with water until the shooter is tackled.

Or something like that.

I've started into stock photography lately and it's been a real challenge. My friend Bryce gives some good pointers and reccomendations on his blog about getting started with it. It's been a little discouraging at first. Most stock agencies require some type of approval, and the one I was most interested in denied 10 out of 10 of the photos I submitted, so I need to wait 30 days to try it again. Nothing like a good taste of humble pie.

School is starting next week, and I'm pretty anxious to get back. I've got some rad classes. Even greater than the joy of learning is the fact that it is looking like I can graduate in December. Ahhh a journey that started over 7 years ago.... ouch.

Marc, Mary and Spencer came over last Friday for a little photo shoot. Well, technically the photoshoot wasn't that small, but the subject was. To see a fullscreen slideshow click here

It's been a lot of fun taking Spencer's pics he's a cute kid. I'll add some more shots from some earlier sessions with him.
